The Impact of Upstream Power Back-off on VDSL Frequency Planning

چکیده

This contribution points out the need to consider power back-off in the upstream direction when VDSL frequency plan alternatives are evaluated. It is shown that upstream power back-off, which is necessary in distributed topologies, can affect the bit rates achievable with any chosen frequency plan. Also shown is that certain power backoff methods result in achievable bit rates that are very close to those computed assuming self-FEXT, which enables simplification of simulations to evaluate VDSL frequency plan alternatives.

Proposal for an Upstream Power Back-off Method for VDSL

This contribution considers several issues related to upstream power back-off, specifically the need to standardize a single back-off procedure and the level to which the chosen procedure should be autonomous. It is concluded that autonomous application of the back-off procedure is the only practical option in unbundled environments. The contribution proposes that T1E1.4 agree on a specific bac...

An adaptive multiuser power control algorithm for VDSL

This paper investigates optimal power control in a frequency selective multiuser interference network. The power control problem is modeled as a non-cooperative game. The existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium in the game is established, and an iterative water-filling algorithm is proposed to efficiently reach the Nash equilibrium. It is shown that the Nash equilibrium point corresponds...

Distributed & centralized power control algorithms for Very High-Speed Digital Subscriber Lines (VDSL) upstream transmission

Very High-Speed Digital Subscriber Lines upstream transmission suffers from strong far end crosstalk (FEXT) by the shortest lines in a multiuser communication environment. This problem called “Near-Far Effect” drastically reduces the upstream capacity on the longer lines. Power control algorithms effectively handle this problem and maximize the achievable data rate region, given an average powe...

Investigation of Upstream Near-Far Problem in VDSL Systems via Complete Adaptive Iterative Water Filling Algorithm

Crosstalk is the main degrading factor in Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) systems which are the result of electromagnetic coupling between two adjacent twisted pairs in a cable. Very-high bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) systems which use higher frequencies for data transmission than the other DSL systems, this effect is more considerable in Bit Error Rate (BER) degradation. This paper con...

Spectral Compatibility of ADSL and VDSL, Part 2: The Impact of ADSL on VDSL Performance

This contribution examines the effect of ADSL on VDSL when both reside in a single binder group. The potential loss in VDSL bit rate due to the presence of ADSL is qualified using channel capacity arguments. Of particular interest is the impact of the ADSL PSD beyond 1.104 MHz on VDSL performance, as high-level ADSL energy in this region can substantially impair achievable VDSL bit rates. The c...
